There are some weddings that simply take your breath away the moment everything comes together, and for our team at Laura Detwiler Events, Rachel and Nick’s day at The Ringling in Sarasota was one of those truly unforgettable celebrations. Every detail exuded timeless elegance, from the black-and-white palette to the refined touches that perfectly reflected their personalities. It was sophisticated, polished, and deeply personal. It was the kind of day that felt effortlessly beautiful in every sense.

A Vision of Class and Intention

From the moment I met Rachel and Nick, I could tell they were a couple who valued both style and meaning. They had a very clear vision for their wedding, something classy, luxurious, and intimate, yet full of warmth and joy. They shared a quiet, reserved energy as individuals, but when they were together, their fun and playful sides always came through. It was important to them that the day reflected both sides of who they are which was elegant and poised, but also genuine and full of life.

The Setting: A Sarasota Icon - The Ringling

The couple instantly fell in love with The Ringling, and honestly, who could blame them?

Between the sweeping courtyard, the breathtaking water views, and the artful architecture, The Ringling is a venue that truly embodies Sarasota’s rich history and beauty. Rachel was drawn to the way it felt both grand and romantic; a setting that would allow their guests to experience something timeless and unforgettable.

On the morning of March 28th, Sarasota greeted us with that perfect spring glow, gentle warmth in the air, soft sunlight reflecting off the water, and a light breeze that carried excitement throughout the courtyard. It was the kind of day planners dream about: calm, joyful, and full of anticipation.

A Design Rooted in Timeless Beauty

Rachel and Nick chose a black and white color palette, accented with hints of natural stone and subtle touches of green. The look was classic and refined, modern in its simplicity yet undeniably luxurious. Every design detail was intentional: stone name cards and table numbers added texture, lush greenery softened the edges of the formal setting, and the glow of candlelight created an atmosphere that felt intimate and romantic.

Rachel’s gown was a vision, elegant and sleek with a detachable train that made a statement without overwhelming her look. Her attention to detail was remarkable, even down to the initials embroidered on her shoes, a small but meaningful touch that captured her thoughtfulness.

Thoughtful Moments and Family Connections

One of the things I loved most about this wedding was how it honored connection, not only between Rachel and Nick but also with their families. A memorial chair was reserved for loved ones who couldn’t be there in person, a quiet and heartfelt tribute that added such depth to the ceremony.

The ceremony itself was beautifully intimate, made even more meaningful because Nick’s stepdad officiated. There was such genuine emotion in that moment, laughter, happy tears, and an overwhelming sense of love and support.

After the ceremony, guests transitioned to the terrace just as the sun began to dip toward the horizon. We greeted them with champagne and sparkling water, a small but intentional touch to create an elegant and celebratory transition into cocktail hour. It’s those in-between moments when guests are relaxed and soaking in the beauty around them that often become some of the most memorable parts of the day.

A Celebration Full of Joy

From start to finish, Rachel and Nick wanted one thing above all else: for their guests to have fun. The atmosphere was joyful, light, and filled with laughter. Their signature cocktails, margaritas and espresso martinis, were a hit and helped set the tone for a night that balanced elegance with pure enjoyment.

The reception design carried through the same polished aesthetic as the ceremony, but with a few standout moments that had everyone talking, including a striking seating chart and an elevated DJ booth that became a focal point of the evening. Every corner felt intentional, yet nothing felt forced or overdone. It was that perfect balance of structure and soul.

A Planner’s Perspective

As a planner, there’s a moment at every wedding where you stop for a breath, look around, and take in the magic of what’s been created. For me, that moment came just as the sun was setting over the terrace as the champagne glasses caught the light, guests laughed together, and Rachel and Nick shared a quiet smile that said everything without words.

Seeing their vision come together so flawlessly, from the elegant design to the joyful energy that filled every space, was truly special. It was a reflection not only of their taste and style but of their love and the people who surrounded them.

This wedding reminded me why I love what I do. Creating events that feel like an experience, not just for the couple, but for every guest, is what it’s all about. Rachel and Nick’s wedding at The Ringling in Sarasota will always stand out in my memory as a perfect blend of sophistication, warmth, and heartfelt connection.
